Rights of the Slovenian and Croatian minorities

(1) Austrian nationals of the Slovene and Croat minorities in Carinthia, Burgenland and Styria shall enjoy the same rights on the same conditions as all other Austrian nationals, including the right to their own organisations, assemblies and press in their own language.

(2) They shall be entitled to elementary education in Slovene or Croatian and to a proportionate number of their own secondary schools; in this connection school curricula shall be reviewed and a department of the school supervisory authority shall be established for Slovene and Croatian schools.

(3) in the administrative and judicial districts of Carinthia, Burgenland and Styria with a Slovene, Croatian or mixed population, the Slovene or Croatian language shall be authorised as an official language in addition to German. In such districts, designations and inscriptions of a topographical nature shall be written in both Slovenian or Croatian and German.

(4) Austrian nationals of the Slovene and Croat minorities in Carinthia, Burgenland and Styria shall participate in the cultural, administrative and judicial institutions in these areas on the same conditions as other Austrian nationals.

(5) The activities of organisations which aim to deprive the Croatian or Slovene population of their status and rights as a minority shall be prohibited.
